RRFP End of the Abortion Access Bowl-a-Thon Season Party
Friday, April 21st 2017, from 7:30-11:59pm, at Gallery5 (200 West Marshall Street, Richmond VA), the Richmond Reproductive Freedom Project (RRFP), Virginia's all-volunteer private abortion fund, is holding a party to celebrate the end of their annual fundraising season, the National Abortion Access Bowl-a-thon. The evening will feature Wii bowling, games, dancing, food, and awards.
Free for RRFP volunteers and fundraisers, $5-20 donation from members of the general public. All proceeds to the RRFP. The venue is wheelchair accessible. Street parking only. Unisex single-occupancy bathrooms.

Flying Brick Library Housewarming Party
VERY big news, everybody!
The Flying Brick Library, a left institution in Richmond since the 1990s, is moving from their previous home, a private residence in Oregon Hill, to a public space at Gallery5. They will be sharing the space with the Richmond Independent Zine Library. The housewarming party for the Flying Brick Library will take place Thursday, April 6th 2017, from 7-10pm, at Gallery 5 (200 West Marshall Street, Richmond VA). The evening will feature performances by Jake Mayday and Andrew Alli.
The Brick has hundreds of books and other media on a wide range of topics, including: class, labor, race, feminism, queer issues, immigration, anarchism, DIY, health, fiction, biography, art, film, religion, travel, psychology, communism, poetry, plays, environmentalism, animal rights, disability issues, economics, urban studies, education, race, and more. Best of all, they'll loan them to you for free.

Climate of Change: Anarchism and the Environment

RRFP Benefit Show with Sha Shakusky, Cellsaga, Wabeya, and more
Friday, March 10th 2017, from 8pm-2am, at Gallery 5 (200 West Marshall Street, Richmond VA), one of our local teams competing in the National Abortion Access Bowl-a-thon to raise money for the Richmond Reproductive Freedom Project, the Roomies, is holding a benefit show with bands and DJs.
The line-up will feature: Sha Shakusky, CELLSAGA, Wabeya, The Parlor, and The Smirks. The evening will also include the unveiling of a new Elbow Room zine.
Entry cost is a self-selected donation to the RRFP. You can donate online before the show, or at the door.

Benefit Show for the Richmond Independent Zine Library
Saturday, February 11th 2017, from 7pm-2am, at Gallery 5 (200 West Marshall Street, Richmond VA), there will be a benefit show for the Richmond Independent Zine Library, which archives zines, provides a lounge and workspace, and displays a gallery of zine-related art. (Zines are small, self-published xeroxed publications.) The benefit also doubles as a birthday celebration for activists and RIZL staff Dusty and Celina (happy birthday!).
Featured acts include Ultra Flake, Anousheh, Kuni, and Listless. There will be a dance party with DJs Sha Shakusky and C E L L S A G A. plus zines for sale, a photo booth, glitter shots, tarot readings, and more.

Richmond Reproductive Freedom Project Fundraiser Kick-Off Party
Wednesday, February 8th 2017, from 7-10pm, at Gallery5 (200 West Marshall Street, Richmond VA), the Richmond Reproductive Freedom Project, Virginia's all-volunteer private abortion fund which helps people in need pay for abortion care and related expenses, is holding a kick-off party for their annual fundraising season. The fundraiser, the National Abortion Access Bowl-a-thon (BAT), lasts from February until the end of April.
The fundraiser works like this: people form teams, which compete to raise money for their local abortion fund (ours is the RRFP). At the end of the BAT, there's a party at a bowling alley, and teams are awarded prizes in a number of categories. The kick-off party is a great opportunity to learn tips about grassroots abortion funding, meet other new volunteers, and join or start a fundraising team.
If you don't have experience fundraising yet, the RRFP is holding a series of Fundraising 101 workshops. You can register for an upcoming workshop here.
The venue is wheelchair accessible via a front access ramp, with first-floor gender-inclusive single-stall bathrooms.

"What is #J20 Anyways?" An Info-Sharing Session on Mass Resistance to the Inauguration
Next Monday, January 2nd 2017, at 7pm, at Gallery5 (200 West Marshall Street, Richmond VA), ASH (Antifascists of the Seven Hills) is holding an info-sharing session on mass resistance against the presidential inauguration, which is coming up on January 20th. Protests, a national general strike, and more are being planned around the country. This event will be a chance to share news, get informed, make connections, and plan.

No DAPL! Black Friday Campaign for Standing Rock
Today, Friday November 25th 2016, from 12-5pm, at Gallery 5 (200 West Marshall Street, Richmond VA), the Richmond Independent Zine Library is holding a letter writing/call in event to pressure public officials to support the Standing Rock water protectors in their fight against the Dakota Access Pipeline. These brave protesters, lead by the Sioux Nation whose land has been stolen to undertake this environmentally disastrous project, have been out in the field for months, and are facing intense violence from local law enforcement and private security. From the event description:
"Join us in the Richmond Independent Zine Library at Gallery 5 for a letter writing campaign to our representatives and a phone bank to jam the lines and ask that the various agencies who've sent people to attack the Water Protectors bring their people home. This thanksgiving the only thanks should be given to the Water Protectors who are putting their lives and health on the line to stand for what is right. While we may not be able to put our bodies at the Standing Rock Camp or even our money, we can still take action!
We will have supplies and snacks, but if you have some to share, do contribute! If you're planning to make calls, you will need your own cell phone. Laptops are not required, but if you prefer typing, please feel free to bring your laptop."
